NUS Sikh Student Conference

October 23, 2012 @ 10:00 am - 4:30 pm

There is currently limited representation of Sikh Students within the student movement, on a national level. Many other student faith groups are represented nationally through organisations such as Federation of Student Islamic Societies (FOSIS), Union of Jewish Students (UJS), National Hindu Student Forum (NHSF) and UCCF; the Christian Unions, amongst others.

NUS is very interested to hear the views and experiences of Sikh students and societies; and provide and provide an opportunity for Sikh societies from across the UK to meet and network.

This event aims to:
• consult with Sikh students
– on specific issues and barriers Sikh students face in Higher (and Further) education
– To identify specific challenges and barriers Sikh societies face, and what support might be useful from a national representative body and students’ unions
– Ideas they have for national Sikh student representation

• inform Sikh students about the national student movement and NUS (priority campaigns etc)
– empower Sikh students to have a voice and take leadership positions

This event in being organised in partnership with Kirat Raj Singh, Education and Welfare Officer of Birmingham City University SU and Varinder Singh, NUS Trustee.
