“Journeys for Change” (Thursday 16th June): State Street and the City Hindus Network are proud to present??Journeys for Change,? a panel discussion led by inspirational figures in the Asian community who have come through great adversity or disadvantage to reach the peaks in their professions.

The objective of the Journeys for Change event is to inspire, motivate and encourage success. The event will explore the achievements, motivations and roads less travelled by our esteemed panel of guest speakers, including themes such as: cultural ethics vs. corporate principles, behaviour shifts among generations of British-Asians, drivers for success, motivators for philanthropy and enriching pearls of wisdom.?We invite you to discuss these issues with our remarkable?panel, be inspired and enjoy networking opportunities over?drinks and canap?s.

Date: Thursday 16th June 2011.

Timings: 17:45 ? 18:15: arrival, registration, drinks and canap?s; 18:15 ? 18:30: welcome notes and panel introduction; 18:30 ? 20:00: panel discussion (including Q&A from audience); 20:00 ? 21:00: networking reception.

Our panellists will be:

Anand Shukla  

  • Acting Chief Executive of UK childcare charity?Daycare Trust which campaigns for high quality, universal and affordable childcare; Chief spokesperson and ambassador for the organisation, regularly providing expert commentary to the media, government and private sector companies on childcare issues
  • Previous experience includes social enterprise development at Allavida and Barnardos, where he led on identifying merger opportunities and providing social enterprise coaching to staff
  • He is a published writer, with numerous articles published in the UK media on issues such as childcare; web business; electoral reform and emotional intelligence
  • Anand is a trustee of the international development charities Health Poverty Action and Child In Need India (CINI UK)
Kamel Hothi  

  • Asian Markets Director in Corporate Markets at?Lloyds TSB Group; she drives the bank?s strategy for the Asian business community, has over 30 years of experience and influences government policies on ethnic diversity in the workplace
  • Has won several prestigious awards for her work and contribution to the community including the Asian Achievers Gold Award for Woman of the Year
  • Kamel started her career as a cashier and rose to become the first Asian Bank manager at Lloyds TSB before reaching Directorship
  • Has chaired the Government Procurement Working Group for the National Employment Panel, advising Ministers on how they can use procurement to leverage race equality and help Small Minority Ethnic businesses grow
  • Kamel is a committee member of The Asian Guild and has been recognised by the community for her efforts in building strong bridges across the various divisions
Pradeep Pursani  

  • Business director at the Shell Foundation; an independent, UK-registered charity operating with a global mandate
  • Pradeep joined the Foundation in January 2010 after spending three years in Strategy and Portfolio for Shell Group.? Before that he spent 5 years at BP in Retail and subsequently on M&A with a focus on India and Europe.
  • He is a Chartered Management Accountant and has a degree in International Business Management
  • He has a passion for entrepreneurialism and social development, sits on the board of two of his own companies and advises start-ups both in India and Africa
  • He is also the chair of the Asian Network in Shell
Sukhi Ghuman  

  • CEO,?Octavian; award-winning, international provider of security and facilities management solutions; clients include leading organisations such as TOTAL, Balfour Beatty and McArthur Glen, together with many local authorities, NHS Trusts and the BBC
  • Octavian was named Britain?s 27th fastest growing private company in
  • the Sunday Times Virgin Fast Track League Table
  • Sukhi Ghuman was practising as a Corporate Lawyer for a market-leading firm when he first became interested in the security sector
Mamta Bhatia  

  • Director of?Think Spa London.
  • She has an BSc Psychology, MSc Occupational Psychology, is Myers Briggs qualified, Level A & Level B Testing, and a qualified business coach
  • Mamta has over 10 years of global experience with talent in leading organisations including: BP, KPMG, Tesco, Accenture, PwC, The Royal Opera House, The Royal Mail and Deutsche Bank
  • She is a regularly featured expert and media psychologist across a range of media, including print (The Daily Telegraph, The Scotsman, The Daily Mail); radio (BBC, Talk sport and Talk Radio Europe) and TV (Sky News)
