Overview

Asian Voice hosts an annual Youth Conference as part of their commitment to support the wider community.
The Conference is targeted to those aged between 16-25, that are either in education, gap years, seeking jobs or
are in early stages of their career. Approximately 70-80 students are expected to attend from a combination of
backgrounds.

Theme and objectives:

The theme for the Conference this year is “Get rich quick: become rich by helping your community, your
country and the world become richer”. The focus of the conference will be around educating the youth on the
importance of giving back to their country, their community and other countries and in turn t the benefits they
will personally derive from doing so (i.e. by helping others become rich – they will become rich through the skills,
networks and knowledge they will acquire). The day will be interactive with a combination of panel discussions,
team building exercises and workshops. This event will enable those that attending to:

  • Realise the value and importance of giving back
  • Get an insight into alternative career options
  • Understand why they need to stand out when applying for jobs
  • Identify practical ways they can learn from the experiences of the panelists
  • Get practical guidance on key skills (i.e. communication, application forms, interviews)

Panel discussion:

The panel will be facilitated by a moderator. Each panel member will be asked to briefly summarise their career
path highlighting where they have given back to others and what was important to them. Specific questions you
may wish to consider in advance:
1. Why did you pursue your chosen career?
2. What do you do aside from your job and how does this help you professionally (e.g. volunteering, sport,
travel)
3. Why do you think it is important to give back to others?
4. How do you maintain a work / life balance?
5. What has been your biggest failure to date and how did you cope?
6. What has been your biggest achievement to date?
7. What advice would you give those that want to stand out in the job market?

This will be followed by Q&A from the audience
