The City Sikhs Network condemns the horrific killing of a British serviceman on the streets of Woolwich yesterday afternoon.

The Sikh community has been a part of Britain for the last 150 years and have fought in the British Armed Forces in their turbans during the First and Second World Wars. Almost all British Sikhs lost family members in conflict during the Second World War, and we are proud of those who defend this country. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the soldier.

The British Sikh community deplores all terrorist attacks against the nation. Such a killing is not and cannot be said to be in the name of religion. We stand united with all people and communities in the UK in the aftermath of the killing.
